The industry standard for digital sculpting and painting

ZBrush sets the industry standard for digital sculpting and painting. Artists can use customizable brushes to shape, texture and paint virtual clay in a real-time environment that provides instant feedback. ZBrush is the preferred 3D sculpting solution by film studios, game developers, toy/collectible makers, automotive/aviation designers, illustrators and other artists. In 2014, ZBrush received an Academy Award for revolutionizing the world of cinema and special effects. Its versatility has made it an integral part of animated features such as Frozen, Moana and Triple A games including Fortnite, and the God of War and Uncharted franchises.

What's New

ZBrush is the leading industry standard digital sculpting software. The latest update features two new tools never before introduced in 3D sculpting workflows. The new Proxy Pose feature provides a dynamic method for modifying the topology of models. And the new Drop 3D function allows you to increase the density of local meshes in order to maintain high-resolution details where needed. ZBrush provides you with access to diverse workflows and limitless creative possibilities.

3D Painting & Texturing

Because ZBrush works with tens of millions of polygons in real-time, you can paint directly on the surface of the model without first assigning a texture map or UV’s. This offers significant advantages compared to a standard workflow. The resolution of the texture map does not need to be decided in advance. You have the freedom to visualize, explore and create textures in 3D, and in real time.

Digital Sculpting

Get empowered by the world’s leading digital sculpting solution. The powerful systems inside of ZBrush are designed to eliminate the constraints of traditional modeling and allow you to create freely, just as you would with clay. When you’re ready to move your 3D sculpt into a pipeline for animation, rendering or 3D printing, the tools to do so are at hand.

Ready Set Render

Whether you are using ZBrush by itself as an illustration tool or as part of a production pipeline for animation, you will at some point want to show your work to others. ZBrush makes this possible using Redshift, as well as a powerful rendering system called BPR (Best Preview Render).

Tools Pipeline

The intuitive approach of ZBrush doesn’t end with sculpting and painting. Interoperability is at your fingertips, with support for key file formats and real time integration with a number of popular software packages.

Requirements

  • ZBrush is available in the following languages: English, German, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, French, Japanese
  • ZBrush is available for both Windows and macOS platforms, and the licensing is dual platform so you can run on both or change between them at any time.
  • Thanks to its processor-based engine, ZBrush runs well on most modern computers regardless of their graphics cards.
  • A graphic tablet (such as from Wacom) is strongly recommended. It will give you more control and easier interaction.
  • Support now extends to include Apple M1 and M2 Silicon Graphics chip processing. Take advantage of the latest technology while working inside the world’s most powerful digital sculpting software.

If you are looking for a computer optimized for ZBrush, these are the key elements to keep in mind:

  • ZBrush runs the same on Macintosh and Windows. Choosing one or the other is a personal choice.
  • A fast processor with multiple cores is a key item because ZBrush is only CPU based. The more powerful, the better.
  • You must have enough memory to handle the system and other background applications in addition to ZBrush itself. If your intent is to create complex models with many millions of polygons, aim for at least 16 GB of RAM and a 64-bit version of your OS.
  • ZBrush is highly optimized and writes a large number of temporary files in order to ensure fast performance. Depending on your model, this can quickly reach several GB of data. An SSD drive for ZBrush and its virtual memory files will provide the best results. You can save costs by having an additional mechanical drive to save your work on.
  • A Wacom (or compatible) pen tablet with a preference for professional models will provide you a better accuracy in your brush strokes and increase the artist feeling. We do not recommend tablets based on N-Trig technology, which is an entirely different protocol and not fully compatible with ZBrush.Learn more on https://www.maxon.net/en/zbrush
